Here in Timor Leste thousands of young people make secret rituals and vows of entrance in which they promise to be faithful until death to a certain group. Some say that these rituals involves the sacrifice of animals, blood shed and even drink of blood. The one who is doing the vow suffer a bit. Why are they willing to submit to such a thing?
In the christian baptism, the believer makes a public commitment, not a secret one, to be faithful not to a certain group, but to Christ. There is no sacrifice, no blood shed, no suffering, because Christ, his new Lord already took on Him all the suffering on the cross.
Impacting East Timor by the power of the Gospel, 'for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes'. Rm 1.16
